Hi,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has replied to my post! The advice and feedback has given me much food for thought!

Today I went to my local VW dealer and after a long chat with the sales manager, I think for my current needs I will not be owning the mk3 tiguan for now. I really wanted to buy one but I think the risk is a little too big for me at the moment. I do not have the time to be going back and forth to the dealer or contacting direct VW if it goes wrong. The issues with the lack of parts for this latest generation of Tiguan is a bit of a red flag for me to be totally honest! Waiting months for parts is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

The sales manager said with all new models there are issues to begin with as it is a brand new design with brand new parts. He acknowledged the software issue is not acceptable but kept on saying it has only affected a small amount of cars from a specific manufacturing period. It sounds like there is an official recall coming soon and all owners with affected cars will be invited to the dealership for the upgrade. Hopefully the cars being manufactured now will all have had the upgrade and shouldn't be affected as much.

I have now drawn up a new shortlist of alternative small suv's to choose from. All new VAG group models have the same software so, I have discounted them. I am going to look at a BMW x1, Volvo XC40 or a Mk2 Tiguan which runs the old software. Hopefully one of those should provide to be a suitable choice.

Thanks again for all your help sharing your experiences with the mk3 tiguan.

Thank You,
Matthew

Would add the Audi Q3 to that list. Of the VAG stable of cars it is the only one not to have yet been upgraded to MQB-Evo platform and with it the shift to MIB-4 software (it still uses MIB-3 software as per the newest of the Mk2 Tiguans)

Yes I forgot about Q3. I’ll add that to my list. I’m going to book some test drives next week to compare different cars and see which I like the best!

The new model cupra formentor is using the new MIB-4 software but what I have seen in the cupra forums and videos on YouTube and road testing a formentor at the dealership the car is not displaying any error on the dash.

You can clearly see on YouTube errors on the dash on the mk3 Tiguans but the person presenting their YouTube video clearly does not want to say about them,
there should be a truthful video on there, but it does look like VAG are pulling them off.

I think that as the a global shortage of some components VW has tried other companies to get cameras and steering wheel air bag components
and seat belt parts and that this has back fired as these parts are failing.

As the first batch of Tiguans are fine and it only certain cars are haveing trouble and that all VAG cars including cupra are now showing apologies
letters on the webpages saying the there is a shortage in certain components that there will be delays in delivery .

This is only my opinion and I might be wrong and I hope I am wrong.

The Cupra Formentor I am running is pre-facelift so has the 1.4 l PHEV and MIB-3 rather than the 1.5 PHEV and MIB-4.

I bought my 2024 Mk.3 Tiguan Elegance 1.5 eTSI 150 last July and wish I hadn't bothered, various warning lights have appeared then disappeared again, the latest one is an Air Bag warning light which entailed another visit to VW as I was concerned about the legality of driving with an Air Bag warning light on. Another problem was the seat belt pre tensioners stopped working for about three weeks and then decided to work again. There is a feedback echo with the voice recognition, so it's switched off. The Sat Nav gets lost at times i.e. Driving down to Cornwall on the A30 the voice of the electric idiot kept telling me to leave the A30 at the junction ahead. There wasn't one and kept repeating the message followed by " Make a U turn" that would have been interesting on a dual carriage way with no junctions for the next few miles.
I have no faith in the car and will be looking for a RELIABLE replacement in the near future and it will not be VW.

As I already wrote, I have similar negative experiences with the new Tiguan. Unpredictable assistants, noisy chassis, metallic knocking in the engine when accelerating, poor sound of the Harman Kardon system. I am not satisfied.

My Elegance was new on the road 28 June 2024. Airbag error message kicked in on 24 October. I have been informed that whilst the Airbag error is showing then none of the airbags will deploy in the event of an accident.

My car has been in the Dealership since 28 October waiting for VW to supply a new front passenger seatbelt which I am told is the root cause.

The replacement part was promised 09 Dec, 19 Dec., both missed, then 28 January and now 31 January!

I too have now issued a notification of rejection but as you are finding, it is a long drawn out process!

Such a pity as it could be such a nice car but it seems to me that they have gone too far with overly intrusive software.

Good luck!
