Well that was a day that didn't go to plan! Was out at lunchtime and went to start the car to come home. Ignition lights came on but the starter motor did not turn over. Called VW Assist and of course when they arrived it started, but the technician recognised it as fault and the car was taken to the dealer. Apparently a new software update was released for the Tiguan and Passat last Friday evening. Fingers crossed it will solve this issue and also the mirror dip and over aggressive proximity sensors. According to the release notes it will take most of the day (if not longer) to install. Currently have a VW Multivan from Enterprise (they have to supply a VAG vehicle if it is for a VW group car being treated under warranty. May get the car back tomorrow, if not then on Wednesday. Will update with the outcome. Couldn't fault VW assist or the dealer on this. They did everything they could to resolve the problem and keep me mobile.

Just to add to the fun, my wife's golf decided to start randomly calling VW Assist this evening. Had raised this with the dealer earlier today as it happened last week as well and there is a software update for Golfs available as well

I’m rapidly forming the view that cars rely far too heavily on software these days and we’d be much better served, as customers, if the majority of it was all stripped out and we got back to basics!

My Wife purchased a brand new Mk2 Yaris, back in 2009, and because she does not now drive very far, independently of our main car ….she has done only 870-1100 miles per annum in the Yaris for the last 10-12 years ….it still has only 25k miles on the clock …so we’ve kept it as not economically sensible to change it. It has none of this tech nonsense on it so it is an absolute joy to drive, easy to maintain, reliable, and get’s one from A to B in comfort and brilliant simplicity!

I’ve always been in to tech but with cars I just think manufacturers have forgotten what the basic function of a car is all about, in the rush to outstrip their competitors! Rather like digital TVs, digital cameras, etc., where we still keep upping the pixels even when the human eye is unable to see the difference! What’s is the point, especially when it adds unnecessary additional cost, not to mention operational complexity and unreliability??

It's intentional, someone has to pay for all this nonsense with new cars, and that's the buyer. You're slowly not buying a normal and therefore reliable car anymore.

The saga continues! The software update process has now identified a fault with the forward facing camera and this will need to be replaced. As expected they are on back order with no indication as to when they will be available. Hopefully this is not a Tiguan unique item, but who knows. Upshot is that I will not be getting my car back for some time and with Christmas in the way I expect not until the New Year.

Hope that you fare better than me and that the camera is not unique to the car.
Surprisingly, the seat belt unit required to get my car back on the road is unique to the Mk.3, apparently.
Good luck!

I guess the camera (and maybe your seatbelt) might be MIB-4 specific which would make them rarer. Th dealer mentioned that they have seen items supposedly on back order suddenly appear without warning suggesting they may be taking items from the production line so they can get existing customer cars back on the road. As the rental car (VW Multivan) is costing VW over £500 a week, they have a financial incentive to get the car fixed ASAP!

Funnily enough, I asked VW Customer Service to think outside the box and get me a seatbelt off the production line …..it was as if I was talking a foreign language! They just said they have no such abilities!
At least you appear to have landed on your feet, so to speak, with a Multivan ….I’d settle for that!
I’ve had to make do with a Cupra Formentor PHEV for the past 2 months ……nippy fun ….but nowhere near the Tiguan in terms of convenience, comfort, or capacity!!

Well the end may be in sight!. I checked my car via My Volkswagen last night and was surprised to see it back on line and seemingly parked with the bonnet and front windows open (as it would be if they are doing a software update). The car was also driven for 2 miles yesterday. I can only assume that the camera part has arrived and been fitted (drive may have been to confirm it was functioning correctly) and they are now in the process of applying the large software update. Fingers crossed I get a call later today or worst case tomorrow asking me to collect it. Almost like waiting to pick up a new car all over again!

Have the car back with the 90PV software update. Big noticeable change is the mirror dip in reverse now works! Car still seems to be over enthusiastic with proximity warnings when parking but I'll she if things settle down in the coming days. Maybe due to it being washed by the dealer last night.
