Squeaky Wing Mirrors

Has anyone had an issue with the wing mirrors making an extremely loud squeaking noise when opening / closing? Seems to mainly be the drivers side on mine, but started a week or so ago and doesn’t seem to be going away. Also not entirely convinced the heated mirror is working either, not sure what the parameters or for it to come on but today it was all condensed so I put the heat on to clear it but still 10 mins into the journey it wasn’t any better but the passenger mirror completely clear

Squeaky mirror has been covered on her before, WD40 dry PTFE is the fix.

When you say you turned the heat on what did toy do?, I assume you tuewnd the switch on the mirror adjuster to mirror heating.

Thank you for that recommendation, is it just applied to the hinge pivot area?

For the heated mirror I just turned the adjuster to the heated position, however in my mk2 it would clear the mirror within minutes but this seemed to have little effect, which made me wonder does it only work if the car is reading below a certain ambient outside temperature? If it’s above this perhaps it won’t heat even with the adjuster set to heating?

Just spray it around the part that contacts with the base where it moves, literally first spray cured mine instantly, as for the heating I used mine the other day and it wasn't particularly cold and both worked, maybe stick it on and leave it a few moments and try touching them, if it's like my other cars have been you could feel the heat.

Passenger side wing mirror on my wife's 2024 Match 130PS gives a loud graunching noise. WD40 had no effect. Dealer has ordered a new mirror housing which has arrived after quite a few weeks. To be fitted shortly so we'll see if that does the trick. My own 2024 Tiguan Match 150PS makes occasional slight noise from driver's side. WD40 seems to have improved it.

Yes, exactly the same as mine, always in the rain or after washing the car.

I brought it to the attention of VW Inchcape Swindon back in July and they promised to replace something or other but they never came back to me. I chased it up 5 weeks or so later and then received a call with reassuring promises again, but … yet again I’ve heard nothing more!!

I have now resorted to a plastic and metal safe version of WD40 which has broadly stopped the squealing/screaching. Get the occasional slight reasonably quiet grumble from the mirror when it activates but otherwise, sorted!

A little squirt of DW40 silicone spray, Had this on previous cars, fords etc. Also Had the Sunroof of my previous R - Line. under certain weather conditions there was a tiny squeak from the rubber seal. just a little dab of the spray and all gone
